New Interview Alert !!!

Thanks to Loren Rhoads for interviewing me recently about my contribution to her collection of cemetery stories. “Death’s Garden Revisted” includes many interesting and entertaining essays, including “In the Shadow of Eldfell,” a piece I wrote after travelling to Iceland.

What’s my favorite song about a graveyard? You’ll have to read the interview to find out!!!

Houston, No Problem

I’m grateful to the REELpoetry 2024 film festival for making “THE MISSING BOOK” an official selection at their upcoming event in Houston.

I look forward to seeing all the films selected to screen at this poetry-film fest.

Trigger Finger (Part 2)

I recorded this song (with a lot of help) a few years ago. And here we are again.

America the beautiful
America the disgrace
America the shithole
Get your gun out of my face

Wake up, politicians
From your silky satin sheets
Stop bending over for your lobby
While more people cry and bleed

From the schoolyard to the graveyard
In the blink of an insane eye
Our kids become our heroes
When they die, baby, die

Blood stains on the playground
Fuck your thoughts and prayers
Do something, anything really
Prove that you care

America the beautiful
America the disgrace
America the shithole
Get your gun out of my face

America
America
America
Get your gun out of my face

Sometimes I Can Be Funny

Thanks to the 2020 Soul-Making Keats Literary Competition for the Honorable Mention in the Humor Category for my short, short story “Shut Up and Write.”

I’m currently searching for a nice home for this little story. Hopefully it’ll land a spot soon. We don’t need a twelve-room mansion or anything like that – a sweet little two-bed, two-bath apartment with a small balcony overlooking a park or a river (or the Mediterranean) would be just fine.

More short, short story news coming soon!!!

In the Midst of Nothingness

I made a short film in response to Shotgun Players’ “Art in the Time of Corona” challenge. You can see it on YouTube:

In the Midst of Nothingness

The Assignment: You have 48 hours to make a 2-minute (or shorter) film. Include three lines (at least) from any play (I chose “Waiting for Godot”). Incorporate toilet paper (or a mask). Indicate the passing of time. And add ten seconds of motion.

Support local theaters. Support local artists.

First Wave of Reviews!!!

elusively familiar yet wonderfully original” … “contemplative and heartfelt wordplay” … distinct and idiosyncratic” … “ruminative and delicate and a little bit trippy” … “a magnum opus of the modern musician.”

It’s fun to see the first wave of reviews come in for What’s in the Meaning of That Cloud in the Sky. Check out a few excerpts below.

The Rock and Roll Report (September 16, 2019)

Strong writing, strong musicianship and nicely varied music combine to create a release that offers something for everyone.”

Review Fix (September 12, 2019)

Greg Roensch’s new EP is full of contemplative and heartfelt wordplay. The dreamy aesthetic of the album makes the instrumental surprises hidden within stand out and grab your attention. This also allows the lyrics and vocals to be placed front and center, allowing you to fully appreciate the soft and inspired performances …”

IndiePulse Music (September 11, 2019)

Roensch has released an album that could be considered a magnum opus of the modern musician, with a ‘Talk – Singing’ style indicative of Avant-guard artists like Tom Waits or early Dylan … he has created an album of 13 tracks which sound like the 13 steps to wisdom, philosophical and rebellious in a fashion, simple yet complex and all highly infectious.

Stereo Stickman (September 11, 2019)

Each song creates a gentle and satisfyingly human take on Roensch’s subject matter, which is ruminative and delicate and a little bit trippy. It’s distinct and idiosyncratic, and I dig it for that.”

Rawckus (September 10, 2019)

“‘Nobody But You,’ a tantalizingly soft tune, is reminiscent of Bob Dylan, elusively familiar yet wonderfully original.”
